What is Vishing?

Vishing is an attempt where fraudsters try to seek personal information like Customer ID, Net Banking password, ATM PIN, OTP, Card expiry date, CVV etc. through a phone call. Or in other words Vishing fraud cab be described as Dishonestly or fraudulently misappropriating property using voice as a mean to extract private financial information
like credit/debit / internet banking details.

The word vishing comes from a mashup of “voice phishing” — that is, a
phishing attack using voice. This does not mean that communication is made
exclusively through phone calls. It is common for this type of attack to start
with sending an SMS, for example. For this reason, many people confuse
smishing with vishing.
Although the goals are the same, there are some differences in the techniques used in each. Know More about relevant section of IT Act and BNS on Vishing.
